In certain scenes that'd work, but a time travel movie inevitably needs a lot of exposition. Dialogue can be funny, but for silent bits, I've got an idea in mind for a scene where an assassin and the father of one of the main characters are wrestling with a knife. As the fight goes one way then the other, the main character appears and disappears depending on who's winning (because his existence is threatened if his father is in danger of being stabbed, obviously). Then, his father could sneeze and the character's hat could change, just as an amusing example of the Butterfly Effect, I thought.

I can't think of any reason why Doctor Grinder would turn round if not to show off his name.

He could just be turning to get the mime, or get something off a table, or even just to step to the other side of the frame. Turning and revealing the name is funny, if done casually. The "ta-dah" part is kind of what kills it for me.

Hitler and the Nazis are the funniest thing we can think of? Time travel is a good start. My next vid involves a time machine (think ancient pickle), but I never found anything funny about Nazis.

For other inspiration, this video trailer (
) involves time travel (and stars my friend, Gary Colon to boot).

I hate to be "that guy", but I think Nazis are a no-go.

I like the idea of Back to the Future mixed with the Terminator, and a little bit of
HG Wells The Time Machine. These three Movies could make a brilliant comedy
Spoof, with Neville Chamberlain as the clumsy Hero, ( Think Striker in Airplane 1,2
But I agree, making it just about Hitler is Old Hat.

To borrow a phrase from the Firesign Theatre (can't get them out of my mind), how about "Forward, Into the Past" as a title?

I don't think that it is necessary to derail the other idea - it's a free country and if there is enough people that like it and want to collaborate then that's up to them. Personally I would give it a miss but that would be no great loss to the project!

Same here. Just raising some questions.

It'd be best to have as many people on board as possible, though. Nazis could be done not offensively, if that's the objection (though I personally like edgy comedy). If it's just that the Nazis are old hat, then fine. I wouldn't mind scrapping the Nazi element (much as I like 'Back to the Fuhrer' as a title), but I like the secret agent element, as it's quite ripe for parody. If not Nazis, what other time travel stories could we do?

I like edgy comedy too but as one of my favourite comedians - Frankie Boyle - has discovered when you work on the edge it is very easy to step too far.
I agree that by being very careful you could avoid this but it is not always easy to see the line. For example at one stage you mentioned a graph showing the number of Jews; I would view that as too far but that is just my opinion.

I don't think you need too many collaborators and it is difficult imagining a story that everybody is happy with anyway. Perhaps you could ask the forum how many people would like to contribute to the production before you consider changing it.

All the best

Such references could easily be omitted so as to make the project as inclusive as possible (it wasn't a particularly funny joke, anyway). I understand that no story will please everyone, though. Just as an indication, then, how many people are happy with the project as it is currently?

Has anyone even tried to search the term "Back to the Führer" on Google or YouTube, yet? There have been so many times when I've come up with such a fantastic, "original" idea, only to be shot down because someone else thought of it before me and posted it on YouTube.

Bah. The second you start worrying about what people will think, or changing your idea for fear of someone's reaction, or writing for an audience you may as well throw your project into the trash can. Write what you want and the audience will come. Try to write to build an audience and the piece will come across as trying to hard.

I like the first bit written. The treatment that went over the general storyline just kind of confused me.

I also did a quick search and found a live action short and a T-Shirt with the phrase on it. Nothing that should stop anyone from doing their own idea.

Can I suggest that we create a list of everyone who's interested in being part of "Back to the Führer" and what they wish to do on the project.

I'll kick off ...

Dreeko - voices/head & eyes direction
(preferred choices. Happy with others aswell though!)

If the next person who posts their name and choices, copies and pastes mine below theirs and all following contributors follow suit then we will be able to see who can do what tasks and how many more we need to begin once the script is done

Cheers

The idea of rewriting history with a time machine is nothing new and with hitler and Nazis being a fairly pivotal point in the twentieth century. It is not a great surprise than more than one person has combined the two already. The logo at the end is practically identical to the one I created for the poster further up this thread. But anyone who comes up with a title parodying the name of another will naturally find themselves making it in a similar style to the original.

Good find though!

Cheers

It's not meant to be an original or ground-breaking idea. It's a parody (that's my excuse, anyway). Although I hope that we can put original elements in it. Another possible title, should we decide that we want another (though I'm not bothered) is 'Some Reich It Hot'. Nowhere near as good, or relevant, but perhaps not done.

Danimal - voices, editing
(I'm just not all that good with animating yet, I can help polish the script for scenes as well if desired)
