One problem that occurs when things start getting cluttered is "where is that thing I put down a minute ago". This especially happens if you move an effect about and accidentally put it inside another object. It's then very tricky to get it out again without having to select the other object, move it, move the mislaid one, then put the other object back.
To get around this it would be good to be able to select the object by name (which I think I've mentioned before). But maybe being able to turn object view off might help - we can already turn off cameras, and effects. Maybe display a wire-frame for guidance?

I know what you mean, but you can do this.

Choose view>system window > select your effect (or whatever) then move to.

I have to use this quite a bit as things get hidden

Spot on ukBerty

Indeed the Scene Window is the most under rated tool we've got. And yet, one of the most useful tools if you are working on a big set.

From this window you can move to, edit and even delete the actor.

Marco

Is there a tutorial that mentions it?

Hi Simon,

I don't think there is a tutorial focusing on this feature.
It can be found quite easily while exploring the user interface and it's very simple to work with. I'm making this statement having the non computer savvy people in mind

I advise you to take a look to this feature if you are working with big scenes.
Do please let us know if you have any questions about it. If you find a bug or that something should be done differently, we are here to listen to you suggestions.

Cheers,
Marco

Aha! Found it now.
Still a couple of things...
It would be useful to have the default name for a non-character object have a more unique name eg a counter on the end would do that (Dry Ice 1).
How can I move an effect that's obscured by another object. Although the scene window allows us to select it, its still tricky to avoid moving the obscuring object instead of the one you want. Maybe have combo light Shift+UpArrow to move the selected object up?
