Hi,

I would like to use floor tiles, carpets etc. What is the optimal image size so the images will repeat properly.

Do you want the images to be on Ground Planes or on the Skydome ground? Makes a big difference, y'see... as does the scale you're working at (with the characters and objects). I generally find that you should use the highest image size you can get (to preserve quality) as Muvizu resizes it down for you anyway. To get more detail/change the scale, I usually have to manually retile the textures in Photoshop to give me the control I need. I know that all sounds a bit vague, but honestly, tiling stuff in Muvizu is a trial and error kind of thing until it looks right.

To tile the sky-dome, try importing just 1 square tile to the ground texture in edit environment. If this doesn't work, try putting 4 tiles on a square image. For carpets, just import a carpet texture and it will tile to look like an infinite carpet.

I hate to say this, but my wife hates me. She goes to few forums
and gets 10℅ of the info I get here. And not always civil.

merci beaucoup

Here's what I usually use.....

Custom Texture: 2048 x 2048 or 1024 x 1024
Decals: 512 x 512
Skydome: 2048 x 512 4:1

Backdrops Aspect Ratios:

Widescreen = 16:9 1280 x 720 Scale 2.40 for sq.Metre
Superwide = 20:9 1600 x 720
Curved = 2:1 1440 x 720
4:3 1920 x 1440
Ground Square 1024 x 1024 Scale 1.44 per sq.m
Vert Square 1024 x 1024 Scale 1.86 per sq.m

Try and keep the dimensions of imported stuff divisible by 16.

Hi,

Thanks a lot. I am filing this information with the other responses. I suspect one day soon, like the day after tomorrow, I will spend all day trying to create floors, carpets, skies, walls etc. Most of my 'creations' :-) are indoors with people talking. Having a little variety should, 'I hope', spice things up a bit.

Thanks again. And I do mean thanks to all.

I forgot this .....

http://www.muvizu.com/Texture/20610/Set-Layout-Grid

If you load it into your graphics editor it will give you some idea of the size your tiles need to be as you have scale lines at one Muvizu square metre/yard.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
Very useful numbers and ratios. But I don't understand exactly what is the "Scale" in these 3 examples.

It's what you need to scale the object by to make it line up with the grid lines on my measuring grid. Useful for making windows and doorways the right size and position on image backdrops. I just cut and pasted from my personal notes. Sorry if it's a bit obscure.
