Hi Ziggy,

Toonarama is correct, a lot of models have that default textures if you save then load the set (including the Mustang, unfortunately) - it is going to be fixed for the next release.

If your models have that texture as soon as you have created them then you may have your default texture set up incorrectly:

You need a bitmap which has a size that's a multiple of 256x256 (i.e. 512x512 or 1024x1024 will also work).

You need to save it as toto.bmp in the directory C:\UT3 - and if you make it a nice obvious colour it will make things easier.

Take care,
-Jim.

Ziggy
Think I am correct here but I'm sure one of the team will tell you if I'm not.

Please see post http://www.muvizu.com/forum/topic512-Tech-Help.aspx#post1629 which explains how you can ensure the textures are loaded in with the mesh.

However if you save the set and then re-open the colours will all have disappeared again. This is a known bug and is targeted for fixing in the next release I believe.

So to use at the moment ensure that you record your output movie before you close your set

Help! I've done everything exactly as described above, and yet all the models I've tried to import turn out purple, with only 2 colours, and they just look a mess. I've tried the other settings, and it just gets worse. I cant even import the Mustang from the tutorial, even though I followed the instructions exactly, without it being a purple mess (as you can see). Any ideas?

Hi Pete, thanks for the feedback - I am glad they are useful.

You can use ID Textures properly - you right-click on a face and there is an option to position a texture (Jamie has more experience with this than I do) I simply recommend selecting ID textures so that you don't get a huge attributes window that has half of the options sitting off of the screen.

You also need to edit the model with a text editor in order to get it to select the correct texture - which is why it's not been covered yet.

Their proper use is intended to be covered in the 5th tutorial, along with making the model more compatible with Muvizu.

If you have any other questions or suggestions let us know.

Take care,
-Jim.
edited by glasgowjim on 9/17/2010

Thanks Jim,

The new tutorial works a treat, easy to follow and great sound(!) Look forward to any more you can post.

Is it possible to do anything with ID Textures via Sketchup, like the orange/purple texture in the main "Importing 3D Model" tutorial or is that the preserve of Maya and other more high end applications?

Thanks again,

Pete
edited by pete029 on 9/17/2010

Oopsie.......

Sorry about that - I will be re-recording the audio for it tomorrow (my voice should be back to normal by then) and submitting a new version - which will also have subtitles and big, bold text showing any file locations that may be difficult to read. (They looked fine on my PC - I didn't realise that they would be so difficult to read on YouTube)

I will also (hopefully) get one or two other tutorials uploaded tomorrow, so you will see how to add proper collision to your models.

Take care, and hopefully the next one will be a bit easier.
-Jim.

This is fantastic - You rock !
You saved my day...

...but you ruined my evening !
Due to the bad sound quality I understand "UTC" instead of "UT3".
It worked, and unfortunately the model came out in pink, but only with 2 colours.
So, I tried every option that could be possible and even graded up from Sketchup 6 to 8.

Finally I made some pictures (tested also other objects) and prepared zip-files for your bug report section.
And then...
i found this little inconspicuous line in the other thread:

*BITMAP "C:\ut3\toto.bmp"

Ok,my fault !
Nevertheless, you're my hero !

Hi folks,

I have created a tutorial on how to import objects from the Google Warehouse via Google Sketchup.

You can get Sketchup from:

http://sketchup.google.com/download/

You also need the .ASE exporter plugin from:

http://wickedhq.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=88&func=startdown&id=147

The audio isn't great (I sat too close to the PC - you can hear it humming in the background) so I will be re-recording the audio (as well as adding a proper intro screen and subtitles) and uploading it again - I just thought you guys might want it for the weekend.

Any feedback is welcome .

-Jim
