Help Wanted: Elvis Clothes! Ya know, there are some tricky choices to make now between characters - take this situation here, where Elvis has to enter the building.

Beefy has some better clothes options, but almost no facial options - our old faithful Mr Potato head there looks the part, can hold a mic, but no clothes other than what you draw (and they'll be flat). Hmm... Beefy will take the textures better, but no big collar and you can't have Elvis without the big collar, surely? Tricky to make the choice which way to go. Sorry, I'm not helping, I'll go now

No chance!
I don't believe that someone as precise and pernickity as yourself could be so random!

I'm just not buying it lol!

True, I do then spend a looong time re-positioning the randomly placed foliage to better suit my needs, but I do the whole 'bombing' technique all the time. Honest

Automating ZiggyMesh Oh, that's a clever one - and a real time saver too. Nice one ukBerty!

sets wont load, cameras 3 and 4 only It's not Sketchup - there is only 1 imported object in the school set (the apple on the desk) and I deleted that before converting it over (just to be sure) and it made no difference. It seems to be an issue with the validation part of the 'pay' feature recognising some feature of a previous version as invalid (or even hacked - which it kind of is anyway...). Another of my sets (the one with all the ferns) was saved in 1.1 (from 23b) and loads fine, despite the fact that practically everything is imported. The Schoolroom set should be fine too, so I'm a bit mystified as to what Muvizu could be objecting to.

...and the moral of the story is - keep backups!

sets wont load, cameras 3 and 4 only ...and then it goes all wrong - converted the set over, tried to load it up again to check it was okay and got the same licensed feature error message. So, I can load up the 23b version, and it saved/loaded okay in Play 1.0, but it will never work in 1.1 since it saves the error into the set. Hmm. Well, until it's patched, you'll have to use the 23b version (which isn't posted anywhere - PM me and I'll send it to you, but again, you won't be able to save it in Play. If your project is short that won't be too much a problem, otherwise you'll have to install the 23b version and use that until Play gets fixed).

The set was the "School_classroom_DT1.set" and is available when I click on the (Online) option for a NEW SCENE.

I created that set, and hadn't actually noticed that it was available through the online bit of the program...Anyway, tried it out, got the same error message. I figured it was an online related thing, and tried loading up the saved set on my machine - same error message. I kept the original version of the set that I made in the beta version of Muvizu (23b) and it loads fine.

So, when I converted it from 23b to Play 1.0, it has carried over some incompatibility (from any of the various quick fixes applied to 1.0) which only effects it in Play 1.1, as we are now. Well, I have realised for a while now that I'll really have to convert my old sets to the Play format, and it looks like I made the right call in holding off for a while until Play settled down

I will remove all my old set files from the gallery, and repost them as I fix them. I will start with the Classroom set, but if you're really in a hurry PM me with an email address and I'll send you the (working!) set file.

Just have to share these guys stuff. Wow, they are smart video makers - I liked the little boxes one the most, even though it's probably the simplest. Good stuff!

Backdrop clip - Muvizu runs slow There are free tools, like Any Video Convertor, which will let you make a less demanding version of the AVI. Your other option is to do everything else first, then add in the video at the very end, just before you hit 'Make Video'.

Backdrop clip - Muvizu runs slow You'll have to reduce your AVI file down to the smallest resolution and/or bitrate possible to stop it bringing Muvizu to it's knees.

I've been trying something new! Damn that's nice - what software are you using? (I know it ain't Sketchup, that's for sure!)

Sketch up model making tip Cylinders - gotta work out how to do this to cylinders... aha!!

1. Select the edge of the cylinder

2. Use the Move tool to move it up/down but with Ctrl pressed (which forces Sketchup to copy the line)

3. Move the copy of the line (constrained to up/down) and you have your seam without changing the shape.

And just to show it works, here's a door I was just working on (that didn't work right with the lights, as usual, as you can see on the left). After it's been 'Fazzed', as we should call it, it looks great - thanks again dude!

Sketch up model making tip Fazz, you are a flippin' genius - I always knew you had to add extra lines to try to 'even out' the shadows, but it never worked across the whole model... Using the offset feature like this is going to change that for good - thankyou! Toast

Newbie Needs Help Directing Character Properties Before you hit the Direct button in the Prepare Character window, is the drop down box at the bottom of the list set to 'Don't Animate'? If so, when you hit Direct, you don't get the slider bar to animate the effect.

Is there any way to use 3D assets from Xtranormal? Urban just pointed me to this, posted by someone at Xtranormal :

"What’s our story?
Xtranormal made your stories come to life. It’s that simple. Create a story. Share a story. Watch a story.
Funny? Romantic? Dramatic? Xtranormal helped you create amazing interactive stories with a few clicks and a little imagination. Ta-da! You’re instantly an animator, poet, pundit, educator or comic. Couldn’t be easier.
We also drove our company into the ground by never evolving our software, even though we did try rewriting it, as well as changing our pricing again and again and pissing off customers by not listening to (or even censoring) their feedback.
That was Xtranormal. And now we’re dead."

A salutary tale, don't you think?

It is possible to create a small .bat file which kills all of the Muvizu.exe processes that can hog system resources by not closing properly - which can also stop the patch working correctly - I will add that info to the troubleshooting section of the Wiki if you want.

Glad to hear it Ziggy!

Now go make some videos! Mad

Jokes! Just go have fun with all your sets again Big Grin

I'm going as fast as I can, but I have to waste 9 hours a day at work which severely impedes on my animating time. We get all these old buggers coming into the shop complaining about being retired and having nothing to do - I'd kill to be retired right now. No, seriously, I would - just give me a name...

Very slow on moderate PC wih basic graphics Although your video card does meet the shader requirements, it would be at the slow end of the performance chart. It should work (with bootcamp and all that) but it wouldn't be a slick experience, to put it mildly. I'd save up and get a decent PC (not laptop!) if I were you.

Just so you know, The Windows rating refers to the PC's ability to run the Aero interface, that's all. And the minimum pass is, I believe, 2. Since your onboard graphics can barely scrape over that, you'll really struggle running a game engine, which is what Muvizu is built from.

(Muvizu HQ, I'd recommend adding something about recommending a more Gamer's spec setup in the system reqs for the program. So many people are on the forums trying to get this running on their (business spec) laptops - they just don't get it. It would save a lot of hassle to be a bit more realistic about the minimum spec (as opposed to hopelessly optimistic as it is now )
