EYES UP AND LEFT (Your Left)
Visual Remembered
This is where we look when we are remembering
images we have seen before, e.g., the face of our
partner, the last place we went on holiday, our
workplace, what we did yesterday.
EYES UP AND RIGHT (Your Right)
Visual Constructed
This is where we look when we are constructing
images we have not seen before, e.g., ourselves in
a location we have always dreamt of but never
been to, a colleague with an expression on their
face we have never seen, our home redesigned.
STRAIGHT AHEAD
Defocused
The clue as to whether this is
remembered or constructed can be
determined by how the weight is
distributed in the rest of the body: to
the left and it is remembered, to the
right and it is constructed.
EYES DOWN AND LEFT (Your Left)
Auditory Digital, Inner Dialog
This is where we look when we are having a
conversation with ourselves or asking questions in our
heads.

External Feelings and Emotions
When we experience feelings, this is where we look.

EYES SIDE AND RIGHT (Your Right)
Auditory Constructed
This is where we look when we are creating a sound that
we have never heard before, e.g., someone we know
speaking in a completely different tone of voice.

Auditory Remembered
This is where we look when we are remembering
sounds that we have heard before, e.g., a favorite
piece of music, the sound of a friend’s voice.

There is one other trick I would recommend for head/eye movement - when you animate a character, hold the mouse down on the control for the duration of the clip. It's nearly impossible to hold it completely steady the whole time, leading to unintentional (and therefore more realistic) movements. Real people don't hold their eyes/heads still for any extended period of time, even when they're trying to (watch someone else watching TV to see what I mean). If you can turn the DPI up on your mouse to make it more twitchy, try doing that as well.

The down side of this approach is an enormous number of recorded movements in the timeline, which will slow your machine down drastically (as I have discovered to my cost!). Some fine-tuning is also required, of course, but it's worth it.

Posts: 471 		I use the ol "hold the mouse button down on the control for the duration of the clip" trick too! It does produce a LOT recorded movements on the timeline and there is a bit of fine tuning involved but as Ziggy said it's well worth the effort.

When asked a question a "normally organized" right-handed person looks (from your viewpoint, looking at them):
Up and to the Left
Indicates: Visually Constructed Images (Vc)
If you asked someone to "Imagine a purple buffalo", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Constructed" a purple buffalo in their mind.
Up and to the Right
Indicates: Visually Remembered Images (Vr)
If you asked someone to "What color was the first house you lived in?", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Remembered" the color of their childhood home.

To the Left
Indicates: Auditory Constructed (Ac)
If you asked someone to "Try and create the highest the sound of the pitch possible in your head", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Constructed" this this sound that they have never heard of.
To the Right
Indicates: Auditory Remembered (Ar)
If you asked someone to "Remember what their mother's voice sounds like ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Remembered " this sound.
Down and to the Left
Indicates: Feeling / Kinesthetic (F)
If you asked someone to "Can you remember the smell of a campfire? ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they used recalled a smell, feeling, or taste.
Down and To the Right
Indicates: Internal Dialog (Ai)
This is the direction of someone eyes as they "talk to themselves".
