Hi all! I was just wondering, is there anything out there that's similar to Muvizu, but for making 2D animation? GoAnimate's not bad, but I'm looking for something I can download and work on stuff offline. Any ideas?

Crazytalk animator, Anime Studio and Toon Boom Studio are your main choices with the initial two coming in with different versions and at different prices. Be aware that crazytalkanimator has limited ready content - the company making all their money by selling add-on packs and plug-ins.

Toon boom is the most "professional" and has a sudent version if you are (or know) someone in full time education.

Both CTA and AS have trial versions you can download.

I like Toon Boom and it's products.

But then again, Toon Boom costs money. Brick Wall
GoAnimate doesn't. It depends if you're willing to pay the fee or not. I don't think they have a free version. I tried digging around for a good one a few years ago, but then I just used GoAnimate.
I could help you better if you could give me your price range. Feedback Requested

I do all of my 2d animation in GIMP the old fashioned way!

I have ToonBoom Animate Pro, CrazyTalk Pro ver 1 and the newer CrazyTalk Animator Pipeline ver 2, and Anime Studio Pro and of all of them, Anime Studio Pro is by far the most affordable and easiest to use. CrazyTalk Animator could have been a good product, but they made character customization practically non-existant and creating new characters from scratch is only supported through using 3rd party applications (Flash or DrawPlus) and is an exercise in mind-numbing tedium. Their newer version CrazyTalk Animator focuses on 3D animation for 2D characters, and even complicates the character creation process exponentially. And don't get me started on their "puppeteering" concept. You can't even keyframe their eye/pupil movement. ToonBoom is a good product, but it is very expensive, and difficult to use. Of the three Animae Studio Pro is the most affordable and easy to use, but it's not without it's own limitations and complications. But if I had to reccommend one over the other, it'd certainly be Anime Studio Pro.

Forgot to mention, Anime Studio Pro does have a character creation wizard, but it's pretty bad. ASP is only really worthwhile if you want to draw your characters from scratch. You can import from Illustrator I believe, or PNG images but it's certainly not a mix & match character creation system as Muvizu has. A good 2D keyframing application with this type of character creator would be a welcome product indeed...

I have Anime Studio Debut 8 and while it is fairly easy to use, as you said, the character generator isn't that great and making your own character from scratch is a pain due to how time consuming it is. I'm about halfway finished with a short I've been working on for awhile now and it took three tries before I could get the villain to look right when he moved. That's about half an hour or so of work each time. I'm basically looking for something that's as easy to animate as Anime Studio, but with a character generator as robust as Muvizu.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no such thing. But I truly wish there was...
