I dont understand why sometimes lip sync works and sometimes it doesnt. Often Muvizu crashes when I'm trying to do that too. I have a character saying the same thing twice, both on different tracks with different names. Usuaslly one version of the lip syncing works and other doesnt. I'm using wav files imported via Any Video Converter. Help please!

thanks

Could you tell us what you mean by "one version of the lip syncing works and other doesn't"? Do you mean the Talk/Shush method isn't working, or the silent bits on the audio file method isn't working, or...? Gotta be a bit more specific, y'see

Sorry Ziggy, I meant that when my character says the words the first time, the lips aren't sync'd but when he says them again later, they are.
I'm just using the talk and no shush as in between his 2 sentences there's other stuff going on, music and another character's dialogue which also sometimes works and sometimes doesnt... is that any clearer?!

Yes

The lip sync thing is to do with the timeline, or how it works, I'm not sure, but I know that I have to jump back on the timeline to a previous bit of the dialogue to be able to play it in sync. If you just play from where the edit point is then it won't be in sync - even moving the edit point by clicking on the timeline, or dragging it about, doesn't keep it in sync. So, I use the timeline markers, placed a few seconds before the bit I'm interested in, and use the keyboard shortcuts HOME and END to jump back/forward to them when playing back a segment multiple times. That (usually) keeps things synced up.

As for your other problem, dunno - may be a side effect of things not playing back in sync making you move the Talk/Shush markers when you don't have to, thereby messing up your edit. Are the characters overlapping their talk/shush windows by a lot, or just a little?

I've played around with the timeline but its still not right. Only one of his lip syncs work; then there are women's voices and they used to be sync'd and now theyre not. I'll try and upload it to Muvizu later and maybe that might help.

thank you again

Here is the first part of an animation, showing the security guard lip syncing on his second attempt but not his first attempt at saying the same thing. The women were also lip syncing successfully at one point, but now dont appear to. Any advice as to what I am doing wrong would be most appreciated

not sure i would just edit all the voices together and use shush talk I when I want each character to talk and not talk. Make sure to assign the clip to the character in the prepare menu and then run the clip for each character and tell him when to shush talk. It should work. Its looking to me one of the clips is not actually assigned to a character And that you have some on shush and have not told them when to talk and some on talk and have not told them when to shush

The way I produce dialog is doing most of it outside of Muvizu. I use Audacity. I record each person's dialog separately in different files. Then I make a separate Audacity file that will combine all people speaking and put each voice on a separate track, syncing them together as a dialog. Then I export each track separately for that character. In Muvizu, I load each track separately and then assign each individual track to the person it belongs to. I never have to use the speak / shush. Lip sync is good. I've noticed, however, that when I render the movie in avi format that sometimes they are out of sync. When I render as Targa files and bring them in as a group into a video editor and then add the sound file that the video and sound are different lengths. I adjust the video length to match the audio length and the lip syncing is perfect. The video and audio lengths are different because of the length of each frame that the editor assigns to each picture does not match the sound length. But when you manually adjust the video length, everything is fine. Doing the dialog this way does not require you to direct the dialog at all in Muvizu. It takes all the guesswork out.

Thanks Mark, I'll try it in Audacity. The annoying and strange thing is he is only saying two lines. I had them both sync'd and saved the file and then later he only syncs to one of his lines. Is this not a problem with the software maybe rather than what I'm doing?

thank you

The only way round this ridiculous problem is to make one video with my security guard lip syncing his bit, then join it to a second video with the the character saying the line again. This is a less than 2 minute animation.... all very frustrating and not helped with muvizu crashing frequently and then muvizu joiner crashing too.

grrrr

It should not be that bad if you put all the dialogue together into one audio file using audacity like we said above and then using the same audiofile for each it should work the other method is hit and miss I have found and have never successfully used it myself despite all the instructions it just doesn't work for some people. The method muvizu was created for was for you to put all the dialogue in one file and use the shush and talk and all use the same clip. The crashing I have no clue lol maybe you need to patch your muvizu however the lyp synch should work if you use the classic method outlined in the tutorials here.

OOOooo thanks, once again!
I wonder if I need to reinstall Muvizu re the crashes, plus I don't seem to have all the options available as shown in that very helpful tutorial.

thanks so much

OK, I have reinstalled Muvizu - and was about to try the dialogue as shown in the link, but I don't have the same dialogue box as shown there (at 3.41) nor in fact do I have the option to start the talking at a timed point (at 1.40 in the link). I dont know how much difference that makes, or if there is a newer version of Muvizu that I need.. ?

i dunno how how you are making this so hard for yourself lol.

add your audio track. it should look something like this.

this is just an example with 2 characters. but the principle is the same for three characters. assign all your characters to the same audio track if they all speak on that track.

one characters talking part.

the second characters talking part

first characters talking part. use shush and talk buttons when that character speaks, the audio waveform will help you fine tune the timing.

repeat for second character but for their speaking part.

you have to change character to direct their speech. or you will just over write what you have just done.

the end result should look something like this.
