Posts: 123 		Note: this post was in answer to a user whose bank holiday weekend was wrecked by spending every hour he could trying to meet the original competition deadline. He has since removed the post, which I think is a shame. Moving the goalposts is always problematic and, even though the reasons in this case were valid, it would be wrong to pretend that this hasn't caused some users upset. We benefit from a tolerant, enthusiastic and growing community here in Muvizu, but it does no harm to take the rough with the smooth. Criticism, positive or negative, is useful.

Dear Mick -

This was always going to be a case of damned if we do and damned if we don't, but on balance the choice to extend to embrace the new functionality seemed the right thing to do - especially given the nature of the Raindance festival and the emphasis on directorial talent and storytelling.

You ask what chance have animations made with the existing version of Muvizu 3D. I would have to say, having seen many of the entries so far, every chance. Yes, we want to see Muvizu used to its maximum potential, but remember that the judges, who are associated with Raindance rather than Muvizu, are looking mainly for clever storytelling.

I am sorry that this has caused you unnecessary stress and family upset; that was certainly not the intention here. Furthermore, we would have liked to have announced this extension earlier but the festival organisers had to do a lot of juggling with their event schedule to enable this and we didn't find out until late on Friday that we could push the deadline.

Apologies again and I hope that you won't think too badly of us over this and that you will enter other competitions that we have in the pipeline, such as one for the Machinima Expo 2010 event.

Posts: 8 		I've really enjoyed producing my entry, and part of that fun was working to a deadline, and working with static camera.

I was a tad miffed (to say the least) that the deadline has been put back, as my some of my stressy moments were for nothing but I'm still very proud of what I've produced.

I don't think I'll be changing my entry but will use the extra weeks to see if I can produce another entry, I have a few ideas' especially if the import object does what i think it might.

Still it's a great comp and a great product and I've had fun.

Posts: 127 		Yes you are right Muvizu although being I thing great, the story is still king.

Other compitions in the pipeline, sounds interesting, do you think they would allow a part movie? As what i'm doing will be in parts as the story is going to be between 1 and 2 hours to tell...

I also run a site and forum for PBP gaming and believe me it's impossible to please everyone no matter how hard one tries and you guys do seem to be trying hard to please. Keep up the good work and can't wait for the new features and site.

Posts: 661 		As the aforementioned creator of the original mail I just want to say that my original post was made out of frustration having battled against the clock to get my animation finished only to find the deadline was amended as I was uploading it.
Although i understood the companies desire to showcase the latest version of it's product it seemed like a very late change especially as the rules were effectively changing (as a result of the new software update).
Vince kindly responded straightaway and along with his clearly genuine apologies he also allayed some of my concerns that animations made using the previous version would struggle to win the prize.
What I think would be useful for everybody would be some sort of statement re what is being looked for in judging the winners.
I certainly didn't want to cause offence. I have bought numerous animation packages over the years without producing anything broadcastable. Muvizu allowed me to do this in a matter of days.
And the support from Vince and his crew is absolutely first class.
Not bad for free software!
