Cannot upload Xmas Competition video IanS wrote:
Hi foff47

If it's getting to a 1/3 of the way uploaded and then failing then it sounds like your connection is timing out. This can happen if your video is too big or you have a slow connection. What codec are you using? Can you try rendering your video out again using the xvid codec? That should make it smaller. See http://www.muvizu.com/Wiki/wiki/78/codecs

Hi IanS
Thanks for the tip, I re rendered the video using the Xvid codec and it made a massive difference to the size. Will try and upload again now,,

Update: That did the trick it uploaded, just waiting for it to be published or whatever it is they do, and then I will enter it,

Thanks again

opening sets error Hi Guys
I have a small problem, I downloaded the "City by Night" snd City by Day made by Rebel. (thanks Rebel)

I opened the City by Night and it took forever to load, but while loading I got this error message, What is it and how would I fix it ?
Also when I click on the OK the computer becomes real sluggish, I assume that is because of the size and complexity of the set.

When you convert in Sketchup you have to add the ase extension, in your video you named it 1 and then converted it, you need to name it 1.ase

Confusing issue with importing assets Dylly wrote:
Your welcome! Don't forget the elephants. Before import do as lamb says and press the Q key for 'two elephants'. If you count out loud saying '1 elephant 2 elephants' you will be able to import the cottage straight into the scene.

For those thinking I'm mad an 'elephant' is exactly one second...just watch Gregory's Girl!

Well I'll go to the bottom of our stairs
Who'd have thought that elephants would help me with this programme lolol,
It worked a treat the ground floor came in, now to build a set and make a movie..

thank you lamb and dylly

ps; are there any tutorials on the modeling and texturing of something like the cottage showing how to add all the different textures to objects to bring into Muvizu.?

Thanks in advance

Confusing issue with importing assets Hi, need a little help here

I am fairly new with Muvizu and at the moment am playing around with it, getting used to the interface and working on movements, but am really really struggling with the navigation around the scene, but, my worry at the moment is with importing assets in particular.

I opened a new scene I chose the plain start up screen, went to -Create - Import - and chose = ob_Fantasy_Cottage_GroundFloor.ase and asset from Dylly (thanks for the asset Dylly) but I got the error message saying that it is either too large or being placed outside the world, so I moved the view port back a fair distance tried importing again and still got the same error message.

I then opened a new scene and chose the Fire Station set, I then again went to -Create - Import - and chose = ob_Fantasy_Cottage_GroundFloor.ase, but this time it came in.

So my question is why did the file import in when there is a set with items already in the scene but not come in when the scene is empty except for the camera ?

Standard views I have been struggling with importing objects into Muvizu for a while especially with the size of objects and now I have discovered that if you have the screen too close to any objects you have in the scene, objects wont import because the error message says there is not enough room. The screen shot below shows the objects I have imported to try to work out the scale, I did the boxes in Sketchup.

The blue box is 1metre cube, the pink box is a 2 metre cube, and the man and cop car are just straight objects created in Muvizu, I hope this helps.

If you EDIT a character you can ATTACH an imported object to part of the body so you could import a car model to a characters waist and reposition as required and then when you move the character the car object will move with them.

Two main issues with this

a) Can only attached imported objects for which you have the ase/fbx file - ie not those that are installed with Muvizu
b) the character can only be moved by making them run or walk which will cause the car object to move/shake as well - you could reduce the impact by ensuring you attach to a part which does not move too much and by reducing the character's expressiveness right down

Thanks

hey toonarama,

Thanks for your time patience and help, I have just spent 45 minutes looking for the way to "attach" the car to the character and still didn't find it , I think maybe I am trying to run before I can walk with the programme.
So for the moment I will go back to the start and get more familiar with Muvizu and come back to this issue a b it later on..

You can only attach things to characters with play+, so if you have the free version, you'll have to stick with object animation.

Hi MrDrWho13

Thanks for the heads up, I don't have the money for play+ so will work with what I have here.

moving groups of objects is something on their list of things to do if i remember rightly at the moment you can actually. At the moment and unless something has changed since I last looked you can in fact now place someone in a vehicle and have him move with it. I dont know how the legs are going to work I know they have added a few animation subtleties we needed as well. To have someone move with a vehicle now you would have them basically wear the vehicle likely around the waist and adjust the weighting. I dont know how difficult it is I have not actually tried however I am familiar with the concept of wearing vehicles to make it appear as if your driving them. They still need to add a method to attach it to multiple characters this is not so easy :/

anyhow at the end of the day likely they will use the group method for that as well but for now you will have to animate the lights seperately and the engine as well. It can be done its just rather fiddly and difficult though and not the ideal way

the wearing a vehicle and moving with it i guess I should qualify this now it would be doable in play+ i am also running on the assumption that we can use the character movement system while the character is sitting and his legs will behave because its an idle action. I haven't tried it yet but I am just imagining it based on "them other softwares" and it seems like it should logically work if anyone has tried it maybe let us know if it works I haven't had time to test this "assumption" yet

Although you can group items so you can move them around your scene together you cannot animate groups of objects.

Therefore in order to move the fire engine I think you will need to "ungroup" the items in the group and then select the fire engine and direct>object movement.

If you need a number of objects/characters to move together you need to use a moving backdrop (to simulate the movement) or use a "green screening" method.

Hi Toonarama, thanks for the info.
Its disappointing that groups cannot be animated, what I was playing with was: I had added some lights to the fire engine and set up a night scene and I wanted the fire engine to come down the street with the headlights on and the red and blue lights on top flashing.

Maybe something the developers could look at.

Just an after thought, and again I know I am only new with Muvizu, but when we animate a character you get (for want of a better phrase) a "Directors Disc" at the characters feet which we can either drag to make the person get to where you want them to be or double click in a space that we want the person to end up which I think is an absolute gem because you can get the character to get to exactly where you want them to be, is there any reason why this same "Directors Disc" cannot be added to objects , mainly vehicles, then we can get the vehicles to get to where we want them more accurately ?

Again just a thought.

Newbie having trouble moving / directing object Hi. Can someone help me please?

I am new to Muvizu and have been going through all and any tutorials I can get and practicing with aspects of the programme, But I have hit a snag which is really trying my patience.

I loaded the fire engine scene, copied and pasted some road to make it longer, edited the environment, bought out one of the fire engines and did a couple of little modifications and made it into a group. I then wanted to record the group moving along the road but I hadn't deselected the last piece of road so when I recorded the Object Movement the piece of road moved.
Now I cannot seem to deselect the road from going into movement mode when I hit the record button, I deleted the movement tag from the time line but every time I hit record the road becomes highlighted for movement and the group becomes deselected.
I really dont want to start all over again with a new scene.

How can I deselect all the movement so I can record the object movement I want move?

I hope this makes sense
Thanks in advance

the camera is pretty easy to move, just click on it with you mouse and position it where you need it. Directing the camera is a bit more difficult you can use the mouse but i find using the buttons a whole lot easier.

hey fazz,
Thanks, will head off to the tutorials, and practice more with the camera movement.

No problems! Let us know how you get on or need any more assistance!

G'day Mike

I am struggling a little in importing the star trek model at the moment it is just hit and miss wether it even comes in at all, but when I am successful in getting it in, I have had to move the scene a long way back and a long way up, which means it is a long way from the camera, and this morning (Saturday in South Australia) I have just spent over 15 minutes trying to get the camera to the position I want it in front of the ship so I can then look at bringing in a night sky backdrop.

So I need to go back to the beginning and fire up the videos on how to navigate in Muvizu and how to work the camera if there is a tut on that, playing around with modelling programmmes the navigating is a little different to that in Muvizu and I am struggling to get anywhere, but will keep having a go.

I'll get the second Q one out the way first.

The object you are bringing in to Muvizu will need a lot of space to get imported, so back your view up and rise up a bit until you find a sweet spot that will let you import your large object, it's trying to import it into a space that is to small.

If you are still having no luck, you can edit the size of the model in Sketchup and reduce it a little until you can import it into Muvizu.

First Q:

You can import some really big things into Muvizu so the model you have should be no probs...

Third Q:

You should use the texturing abilities of Sketchup to modify your your dome cube before you bring it in. I remember hearing of a nice Sketchup plugin called Fredo Tools...it's excellent for texturing and painting objects in Sketchup. Have a wee Google of that and let us know how you get on!

-Mike.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick reply, I managed to get the model in, but I had to move way way back and a long way up, I am going to go back into Sketchup and scale the model way down and see if that helps, I followed the tutorial for exporting from Sketchup to Muvizu, the instructor imported a Mustang and scaled it to the figure that opens with Sketchup , so I thought I would do that with the Starship model using the figure as a guide.

I will get to the texturing over the weekend, I want to get this importing problem licked.

A couple of noob questions, Model and texture size Hi guys, I have a couple of noob questions,
I have only had Muvizu about a week, I have downloaded and looked at a lot of the tutorial videos from this site and checked the FAQ and any other help I can get but now need to ask these questions,

I downloaded a Star Trek model for the Sketchup warehouse, positioned it on the origin and exported it as an ASE file as per the tutorial on this site, but when I try to import it into Muvizu I get an error message saying,

The object you are trying to import is either too large, or it is being positioned outside the world.

The file is 22,733kb in size.
The first part of my questions are
1/ What is the maximum size of an object Muvizu will bring in ?
or
2/ What does it mean "outside the World" and how would I bring it or any other imported model into the world?

The texture question is,

I made a small model in Sketchup (a cube with a small dome on top) exported it as an ASE file and brought it into Muvizu (no problem there) I then wanted to texture it with a Sci Fi texture I have, but when it came in it was bad it looks like it is too small,
The question is: is there a way to edit the texture to possibly change its size?
and is there a way to send out a model to a uv programme to customize its texture to our liking?

I hope this makes sense.
Thanks in advance
