Lock Eyes To Camera / Eyes Track Objects Yes, yes, yes! This feature would help speed up the process a lot, and would look great. Amazed I didn't suggest it myself! Nice one, Pinguino Studios.

Just learned from reading your posts, Dreeko!

Interface & Timeline I must confess that all my suggestions are generated by my own impatience at trying to get things done, but I imagine what bugs me must bug someone else, so...long lists of feature requests!

As for phone gestures and taking off your hat etc, I think having a 'grab point' at characters wrists and ankles to allow you to puppeteer them would be good thing (not the first time this has been suggested I know, but with ragdoll physics you can make characters do all kinds of wierd things you wouldn't make a pre-set animation for). I have lots of fun in Oblivion and Fallout 3 playing with the dead bodies. Oh, that so doesn't sound right! Whaaaaa?

Interface & Timeline Thought I'd better just create a new topic rather than try to appropriate someone elses! Specifically, I'd like the following;

The option to turn off the mouse prompts (I get it! Honestly! RMB and everything! No need to take up the bottom of the screen anymore!)

Numbers on the scales. Please. Even if it's just a single number for each scale to tell you what value it reads, I need to be able to repeat the rescaling (especially now that we can rescale in other directions).

A customisable Timeline - I don't need every track on there for every character, and the Timeline takes up a lot of screen space, so being able to disable a few lines would help a lot. There could be a row of checkboxes along the top to allow you to re-enable tracks as and when needed. Obviously the tracks wouldn't be deleted when disabled, just hidden.

And some other stuff that's occured to me as I've been animating...

-Assuming we can turn off the mouse prompts, the timeline could be shown lower on the screen.

-The cue points prevent you from selecting the start/end markers of the Timeline when they're on top of them. Any way we can make the start/end markers bigger or something?

-Would love to have a graphical representation of the waveform on the audio tracks. Works great in Premiere...

-The ability to zoom in further to show distinct frames for precision (read : Pedantic) control.

-Guns. Nothing to do with the interface or Timeline, I know, but I'm going to keep asking anyway.

-An option to turn off the auto drop down menu behaviour - I'd prefer to have to click on them to drop them down, so I don't trigger them by accident (which I do a lot).

-In the Make Video screen, it would be nice to have the left side (currently empty) showing the name of the video, the path/filename it's being saved as, and the codec information.

I'll be back with more...

Guys, thanks for your input, and enthusiasm, as always!!

There are a few things that we have discussed to improve the current timeline, and the ability to copy and paste animations between characters is an improvement I'd also like to see.

There were also things like increasing / reducing the tempo of animations, grouping them, more flexibility to move blocks over and beyond other ones, allowing the animation to stop at a specific point...if you have more suggestions, please do keep putting them forward.

I would really have loved the copy/paste function when I was making this video, it was such an effort!

More control over the animations means more fun for us, and more ability to do daft things. My first reaction to reading your list is that being able to move actions around freely along the timeline will make my life a million times easier, I tell ya!

There is one thing though...(come on, you knew it was coming!). I was trying to animate someone showing someone else what drum pattern to play - no problem, except they can only do it sitting down. A seated/standing override on the animations would be very welcome.

And that is a very cool dancing robot animation. Been ages since I heard Ivor Cutler

Break Up Lines Animated - Will You Help? I wondered about that message...

I'm just finishing my sweary opus, and will get back you next week about other dump lines.

Colour picker/eyedropper I second that - I use that trick in Photoshop all the time, but it would be nice to be able to replicate colours easily rather than having to write down the RGB values. Or just guess!

The eyes have it Actually, if you could just copy a character's actions on the timeline, you could paste them into another character's timeline. Simples!

The eyes have it That's an excellent idea Dreeko - universal Expressiveness, eyes, head, etc - it would mean you could do crowd scenes with people in sync, and dance routines and the like. Crowds at a tennis match... ha!

The eyes have it ...another call coming in from the Ziggy hotline... <somebody disconnect that thing! Quick!>

At least this one is on-topic - universal eyeglow. Sounds like a new cosmetic actually, but what I mean is one control to affect the eye glow value for all characters, so I don't have to assign each one individually according to the ambient light. Whenever you're ready

Just had another thought mid-animate here - could we have a reset button on the Prepare Character Actions pages? I've been animating as I go, building up a backlog of animations for each character, and now their pages are full of actions I don't need them to do again.

What would the button do? Reset the pages to the default actions?

We should just send you a big red phone so you can speak directly to us on the Ziggy Hotline.

Yup, reset them back to default. You don't think that would be useful? Just me then

And yup, a Ziggy hotline would be nice!

head/eyes movements and sliding on the ground Also noticed that moving the start of the timeline too close to the start of a character animation/movement block can cause sliding too, especially in the Make Video window. It seems that you can overlap the blocks with the start of the timeline okay (but not always), but there is a little buffer you might have to leave in the Timeline between the start point and the animation block to avoid it going into slidey mode. Again, works me for at least

The eyes have it This seems like the place to suggest this - could we have a checkbox option on the eyes animator to disable blinking. It's a pain when I'm trying to get eyelines right and the buggers keep blinking and I can't see what I'm doing. I know, I know, you can turn off the blink routine in the character properties, but then I forget to turn it back on again and I get annoyed and so on and so on... It would be a nice shortcut to be able to disable blinking there, and then enable it again in the same place after you're done animating the eyes.

eBook users - you're ruining it for everyone!!! Books are a great thing - they've served us well for centuries. But so did the horse until we invented cars and planes, so now we don't have horse sh*t all over the streets. My point is that there are some definite problems with books, too.

One book - fine. 20 books - kinda heavy. 1000 books - need an entire building for that...or one ebook reader.

Books aren't what you'd normally call waterproof - and paper is more fragile than it looks (highly flammable too).

Ever tried to hold up a Tom Clancy novel for any length of time? Painful on the fingers, very painful.

Books don't have backlights - reading in the dark is not an option.

You can't change the font size on a book if you find the typeface hard to read.

I love books too, don't get me wrong, I'm just saying you can't deny that there are definite advantages to having a digital option as well. And as for looking at "a system of reading that needs plastic and chips and batteries and cables and screens" well, aren't you already using a system just like that to read this? Also, by the same logic, aren't Muvizu and the other 3D animation packages the digital equivelant of claymation, meaning it will spell the end of stop motion animation? I don't think so.

Books aint disappearing anytime soon, that's my answer to your (well made) point. Rant over

head/eyes movements and sliding on the ground I dont know if this helps all that much, but I find the answer to the sliding to be just putting the timeline back to zero using the Home key. If you play it again after that it should work - seems to for me anyway.

@Ziggy - one of our Code Ninjas seems to have squashed the ATI bug...however, the fix still needs to get thoroughly checked before the next release...so...it looks very promising, but as always...no promises!!! :P

Thanks! But after you've squashed the bug, could you send it my way so I can jump up and down on it a bit? Won't fix anything, but I'll feel better for it.

(BTW, my sweary opus is progressing nicely despite the f**king bugs...)

bleeding edge beta and things that made me go hmmn @ Emily - Good suggestions, but I can't do it that way (I render each shot, review it, change it, render it, review it, change it, render it...that's why I don't make so many!). One question though - when the upgrade to the Unreal engine is finished, will the problem remain for ATI card users? I needs ta know!
2011/1/31 20:15:24
bleeding edge beta and things that made me go hmmn @ Emily - Yup, ATI video card. Changed to it not long after I upgraded to the bleeding edge version, but I thought the glitches were Muvizu's fault...damn ATI! Thanks for the info all the same.

@Neil - Scroll bar? Why didn't I think of that! Awesome, thankyou in advance.

@GlasgowJim - Nice workaround!

Thankyou All! Now, back to trying to animate this bloody sweary thing...
