An open Letter to Muvizu's developers Not been on this site in years - didn't even know it was still going. Gave up on Muvizu a couple of years back after the first major overall of the system as it was (despite being 64 bit) so clunky and awkward to use I couldn't afford to waste more time screaming at the screen...
I cannot believe it's only on version 1.8 !! - should be on version 3.0 by now.
Anyway add another +1 to the above from a user who started using Muvizu back in the dark ages.

When I opened Muvizu, it said that there is a new version and asked me to update. That took only a few minutes so I had guessed it was just the corrected files as opposed to the hour long download of the full installation.

I did that on my machine at home - clicked on yes for the update - and it failed - so I had to uinstall and reinstall anyway.

The other download files are just below the two prominent download banners. There's a paragraph that says : "if you need to revert to the previous version of Muvizu (0.16b), you should uninstall any other versions and download again. v0.16b 32-bit is here and v0.16b 64-bit is here."

Thanks

I didn't download the whole install, just the patch.

Where do you get "just the patch" from? - the download page shows only the full installation - also where are the other download files from?? - this has been mentioned before but I cannot find previous versions to download dunno

Feedback on Muvizu - 5th September 2011 (ENG) Getting an error with the 64 bit download - seems the file has not been uploaded to the server properly!

Ok Ok so it was my end - and it was uploaded all the time.....(actually it wasn't but it's working now...so I will just blame our system rather than yours)

I'm at work at the moment(!) but why not create a simple cube in sketchup and fill with a texture using the paint bucket then try.
Otherwise look for something really simple (football?)

Aren't we all (at work ) - I must be missing something really simple - if I import the texture the entire object gets covered in that texture instead of just the area... oh well going to work on something else anyway so won't worry about it for now - thanks for the input though.

Must admit importing SuP models seems to be a bit of hit and miss affair.
Anything too complicated and things tend to get a bit messed up; I often find planes go missing.

Also it would be nice to have a guide on what all the import options are; just in case we're doing something wrong!

Agreed - can you give me a model to search for in SU that you know works then I can try the steps and that way I know I am doing it right and it's just my choice of model that is the problem.

Just checked it out

The option to export is greyed out if the material is a colour rather than a texture.
If you right click on atexture file it does allow export.
If you let me know which model you are downloading I will give it a go here

I worked that out late last night - although it still seems very strange to me - for example I have tried a "General Lee" car from sketchup - I have also tried a X-Wing model which although I have now managed to export the textures I cannot get to look like the original model.... dunno

Ambient Occlusion and UV Maps Ok by RC - I assume you mean Right click? - where? - all I see is a list of materials with no option to save - this is using SU 8.0 - can you please confirm what you mean? dunno - ok managed to get the RC working but it saves as *.skm which Muvizu does not recognise...any chance of a simple video tut to show how to do this? - doh! - ok I missed read the instructions and was choosing save as instead of export!! - will try again. .... nope still don't work..once I get the RC - the option is now greyed out werd

This obviously would be even better if we could copy and past characters with their prepared actions included also.

This is the main thing for me - imagine just creating a character that does certain actions. saving and then when required copying into a new set...no setup, no prep, just copy and paste...great for crowds as well..

Having just got together with Jamie and some of the devs, we've thrashed out a plan to release a patch as soon as we can to address some of the, er, unpublicised features kindly highlighted by users in this thread. Special thanks go to ukBerty, Quoling, Artpen, Simonheffer, Dylly and Danimal (although for those two last ones we may have to urge you to see an optician - user-defined font sizes aren't something that we can fix in a patch).

The devs involved in planning and executing this patch may well tax some of you for more information and, you never know, may also update you in this thread on their progress and, after a few days, a target date for a patch.

Thanks for your help ... and your temperate language.

As someone who has worked in software support for close to 15 years, I for one can understand how uhm...extra's can get through the net!!

Look forward to the patch.

Feedback on Muvizu - 5th September 2011 (ENG) I tried that (without textures) and the files would not load - with textures they do - and I have saved and loaded a few times and it works fine in a new set...so looks like I am going to have to rebuild the set..(months of work down the drain)...still I think I was being too ambitious in the design anyway so it might be a better way of doing it.

When importing objects don't use ID textures. Set textures as blocks of colours if that's what you need, or assign textures.

Sorry to be thick here - but can you expand on this? - I have seen textures being mentioned before for Sketchup but am not 100% what I should be doing and anything I have tried does not work - can you give me a step by step instruction on how to do what you mean?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean here. So every face of an object needs to be a texture, even if that texture is just a colour ?

I agree here - not sure how we are supposed to do this - especially on old objects - Jamie - can you give us some steps? dunno

Feedback on Muvizu - 5th September 2011 (ENG) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH after 2 hours work last night updating an "old" set - just reloaded and I am getting errors "an object propery has been unexpectedly changed and this file will not display properly" - this is REALLY annoying as I was able to save the file but cannot load it back in!!! - lots of editing/prep/direction done....all wasted... sorry Emily...no Queen video yet! It did load in eventually but could not work with it - characters not where they should be - everything out of synch - lots missing..

Hi Quoling,

Could you tell us a little more about the fatal error that you got? How many characters had you created when it happened? Were the characters actually in a Group or had you just selected a lot of them at the time? Thanks.

I couldn't actually select characters and add them to a group - so I created two, duplicated them, selected the four, duplicated them etc - when I had about 10 characters I just got a long dialog box with "fatal error" - didn't take much notice of the description as I closed that and then Muvizu stopped working.

I am currently creating a Queen "live" movie (just for Emily) - part of the set - looks over the ground and therefore I thought it would be good to have a "crowd" instead of just empty spaces - I may look for images to see if I can give the impression of crowds...that could work really well actually....

In fact, I tried to group a airplane and a camera.
I prepared, and it worked in PREPARE, the camera followed the plane(rotation,up&down ..),but you're right ,it doesn't work in DIRECT ? (a bug ??)

No it's not a bug - as said by the Muvizu staff above this has not been implemented and therefore has not been designed to work.

Feedback on Muvizu - 5th September 2011 (ENG) I have had problems with old sets - after saving and reopening I get a warning that something has become corrupted - this seems linked to saving the file as after a save, I tried to direct some movement and nothing worked...even preparing actions just stopped.

You can answer to this problem !
You have just to GROUP the camera and an object, it works !!

How? - you can attach a camera to an object as a group - but you cannot then prepare/direct the group to move...so how would you do that? dunno
