Two years after their last release Valve have done a new video: Meet the Medic!

They have also announced that Team Fortress 2 is going free-to-play, which is perhaps the greatest video game news ever.....

I think that Valve use Max and Maya - but I am not 100% sure.

It seems they use their own animation software called "Source Filmmaker" that runs inside the Source game engine.

Im sure you can make some really cool animations with this but i highly doubt that the video at the top of the thread was made with it.

The meet the medic animation looks 100% custom made.....and if the company says otherwise then im guessing that they are bending the truth (lying).....

As someone who's spent like... 400 hours plus working in the source engine I can tell you with hopefully some meagre level of authority that Muvizu's animation system is far, far friendlier than the one in the source engine. for example:

$sequence idlealert "idlealert" loop fps 30.00

$animation view_yaw_left "view_yaw_left" loop fps 30.00
$animation view_yaw_right "view_yawright" loop fps 30.00

$animation view_pitch_up "view_pitch_up" loop fps 30.00
$animation view_pitch_down "view_pitch_down" loop fps 30.00

$sequence turret_yaw { view_yaw_left view_yaw_right blendwidth 2 blend turret_yaw -60 60 }
$sequence turret_pitch { view_pitch_up view_pitch_down blendwidth 2 blend turret_pitch -15 15 }

And that's how you make a turret dance in Source like this:
