Yeah, that's the whole 'sketchup/blender/ase/whydoesntthisf**kingthingwork' conversation. It's a long and rocky road...

Attaching skates to the feet isn't the problem (with Play+), it's getting something into an ASE or FBX format that Muvizu agrees with in the first place that's always the problem. So, the first question in the SBAW conversation begins - do you have sketchup 8? Big Grin

There doesn't seem to be a sketchup 8, there is a sketchup 2015 which I'll play around with.

http://www.filehorse.com/download-sketchup-make/old-versions/

you cant use the exporter plug in with the new versions which is why we use sketchup 8. i have the last version of 8 running and it works ok for muvizu.

Yeah as fazz said but the trouble is you most likely will be unable to find a copy to download, even as a torrent, I haven't got my original download of the last version of 8 (8.0.16846) but I have found an older version, 8.0.4811, which I have put on dropbox for you to download (GoogleSketchUpWEN.zip):-

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mdqy7jeva5701w9/GoogleSketchUpWEN.zip?dl=0

Keep the 2015 version that you have, as it will come in handy, I'll explain why.

With SketchUp you have access to thousands of ready made models using the 3D Warehouse by clicking on File\3D Warehouse\Get Models, this feature no longer applies to older versions including 8 as they removed access for those just a few weeks ago.

So use 2015 to locate and download whichever model you need and then use "save as", when the save window pops up you will see under the File name the option to "save as type" Sketch Up Models (*.skp), select Sketch Up version 8 (*.skp) and you will then be able to open the file with your old version and export with the plug.

Also, I find that most of the models are made using version 8 or 7, so I usually just use my browser and visit https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/ and save the models to my hard drive that way, this is much faster then browsing via Sketch up itself. If you find that the model will not load into SketchUp 8 because it was made using a newer version then just follow the above using 2015.

I am sure that we will hear further from you in the 'sketchup/blender/ase/whydoesntthisf**kingthingwork' conversations that will follow :-)

Hi Neighbors... I downloaded this SketchUp 8 from SketchUp.com January 2015 just before it was removed. If anyone wants it or either of the Muvizu ASE exporters just ask.

Thanks guys, I found some roller skates on 3-D Warehouse and used Sketchup 2015s Export command - 3-D Models - FBX to save them to my props folder. Hopefully I can figure out how to attach them to my characters! http://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=c83e69a66efb27ea41c06ab351ea3599

There are attachment spots for the left and right feet. You'll have to mess around with the scale in Sketchup to make it match Muvizu's scale though, as it's quite a narrow window you have to hit to match the characters scale (I find).

Thanks Ziggy. It's good to know these attachment points exist; how do I access them?

Scale is easy enough - just select your skate, press S, and scale from the points. Rotation you do by having your skate as a group, then use the Move cursor to highlight one of the little red crosses on the blue selection box - the cursor will change into Rotation mode.

I've managed to get the skate in the vicinity of the foot using a lot of trial and error, mainly error, in Sketchup. Using the location and rotation controls in Muvizu I've managed to get the skate right by the foot, but I can't figure out how to put it under the foot.
