Hi...unable to Make Movie. As soon as I click on the button an error message pops up saying:

There was an error making your movie.

The file is locked, or in use by another application.

I have tried different file names, locations and codecs, all to no avail.

Any ideas?

Hi bonyman, sorry you are having trouble.

Have you tried running Muvizu as an administrator?

What operating system do you have?

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi Jim.

I haven't tried running it as administrator and not precisely sure how. I'm the sole user of the PC.

I'm running Windows XP Home, if that helps.

Any suggestions welcome!

regards

Hi Callum,

You can't run programmes as an administrator in XP, it's purely for Vista and 7 - sorry for any confusion. I was hoping that I could ask a few more questions:

What codecs have you tried using?

Are you able to save your set from Muvizu?

Are you able to save videos using other software, such as VirtualDub or Windows Movie Maker?

Take care,
-Jim.

Thanks Jim

I've tried using all the codecs and get the same error each time.

I have no problem saving sets from Muvizu.

I've just checked and I can save videos from Windows Movie Maker.

I can only think there might be some conflict somewhere. I have Sony Vegas Pro 8 installed if

that makes any difference?

Hi again,

Sony Vegas 7 has been known to cause some compatibility problems - we haven't seen any with 8 (yet) would it be possible to please try saving a video with Vegas disabled or uninstalled?

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi again Callum,

Guess we can rule out Sony Vegas then..... some users who have had problems with Muvizu saving files have had luck with uninstalling it and reinstalling it in a different directory - as long as you save your .set file your video should remain intact.

For example it is currently c:\Programme Files\Muvizu so please try c:\Muvizu as your destination folder during the installation.

Please let me know how you get on.

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi Jim

still gloomy news, I'm afraid. Did a complete reinstall as directed with new installation folder

but still can't make movies. Same error message as before.

I hope there's a solution out there, as I'm loving the program.

all the best

Hi Callum,

Sorry this hasn't worked - could you please check for a log? If one has been generated it may tell us the specific reason why this is happening (they are not always generated, unfortunately)

They are located in the Muvizu\MuvizuGame\Logs directory and are called Launch.txt.

Take care,
-Jim

Hi again Callum,

Nothing obvious there I am afraid, one quick request though - could you please try making another movie - i.e. create a new set, spawn a character and record 1/2 random animations then make that video.

This will allow us to see if it's caused by something in the set or by a general incompatibility.

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi again Callum,

The devs are looking into possible causes for this error - they are looking into creating small application that can figure out exactly what is going wrong - would you be willing to give it a go once they have got it up and running?

Take care,
-Jim.

Thanks for looking into this, Jim.

I'd be happy to give anything a go as I really want to get it up and running.

I'll wait to hear back from you. In the meantime, I'll try and see if there's anything

else that could be causing conflict.

All the best

Hi Callum,

Sorry to see you're having problems.

What I would do in your position is to do a complete spring clean of the PC, get rid of any rouge programmes and remove all unwanted or unused software. Clean the registry and update everything, make sure you have the latest Windows updates, Direct x, Graphic drivers etc. etc. and scan for Malware/viruses. After that remove all of your video codecs reboot and reinstall a codec pack and finish of with a defrag.

If that doesn't help then at least you know you have a clean and fully updated PC.

If you need any help just say so, I have plenty of links and all the software is Free!

Thanks, Frendor. I'm pretty good with keeping all the updates done and have got rid of unwanted software. Will have a look at graphic drivers and codecs when I get time.

Now I have a new problem (unless I'm missing something) where I load the projects I have made, click on Tools/Timeline, press Play and nothing happens! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh!

Probably spent too much time in front of the PC.

time for a break.

cheers,

Callum

Hi bonyman,

I have/had exactly the same problem as you with Windows XP.
The problem is still there but I've found a work-around which is not for the faint-of-heart.
I created a dual boot of Windows XP, this required a repartioning whilst not destroying the original XP installation. The new XP partition contains nothing other than XP, its updates and required video/audio card drivers.

Muvizu now works fine on the new XP partition but still give the same error as you have on the original partition. I too have Sony Vegas (8), and other video stuff, but didn't want to uninstall them to see if any of them were causing the problem as it would have been a pain to reinstall them all and all there plug-ins too. So I'll just live with the dual boot for now.

Hi Callum/David,

We are trying to find out which piece of software is causing the conflict, so that we can create a fix that doesn't involve a new operating system - hopefully the devs will have their test software sorted soon.

As for the Timeline not working - is the green bar present after you load? If it's not drag the second diamond to the end of your video and everything should (hopefully) work as planned.

Take care,
-Jim.

Thanks David and Jim.
I'd prefer not to take any drastic action at this point and would prefer
to try a fix as the first course of action. Regarding the Timeline, I'll take a
look at that when I'm home later.
All the best,
Callum
