I have spent about 3 evenings trying to import an AVI. I don't have any knowledge of codecs but I must have loaded them all. I exported from premier in many AVI formats, I followed all the advise on this forum. I tried the test video from this forum also but always got "unrecognised format". So today, while the wife was away, I installed muvizu on her machine, added an object and imported an Xvid AVI first time. We both (still) run windows 7 so is this something to do with the hardware? does muvizu use the GPU?

I can't comment on which avi codecs work best since it seems to be completely random to me. (That's probably not true but it's how I see it)
However, Muvizu relies heavily on the GPU of your computer for almost everything (Actually yes this may affect avi imports come to think of it. Do you have the latest GPU drivers for your PC?).

Regarding AVI import success:

This is something that I've thrown a huge amount of time at... having successes that vanish later with exactly the same files and codecs. You can probably disregard just about everything you've read here on the forum, since it appears to be like shooting at a moving target with a stationary cannon. I currently have LOST the success I found with certain AVI formats in two different video format exporters. At this time (keeping my fingers crossed as I say it so I don't jinx myself) AVI exported from Anime Studio 11 will work on backdrops... but many other AVIs that used to work suddenly don't anymore.

My advice is to use the layering ability in your video editor to add background video to your stories. Most video editors have this capability, and it adds other functionality that you can't easily get by putting an AVI on a backdrop.

just upgraded my nvidia gt440 driver and still no joy loading AVIs - the machine which works fine has AMD Radeon HD 7480D onboard graphics chip. I know game engines are very fussy and games that run on my machine will often fail on the AMD and visa versa.

The only format that worked for me in any Muvizu version was AVI uncompressed videos made with after effects.
Those videos have to be short to not produce long files.
In 1.7 version some compressed videos using msmpeg3 codec worked but when I tried 1.8 version they stopped working.

Try this video in your system and tell me if it worked. It is avi uncompressed made with after effects

Xvid used to work in earlier versions surely it could be made to work in future versions.Whaaaaa?
The uncompressed river works for me 1.8 though annoyingly the colours are not the same.
I had earlier versions where avi wasn't a problem but was advised to uninstall them to overcome a problem with the thumbnails.
The uninstall worked re thumbnail problem ..when i tried to re-install my older versions i couldn't activate them...admin said they are history now and i wouldn't be able to activate them anymore.....gutted....and the thumbnail problem returned anyways......both the thumbnail and video glitches are huge fetters to my work flow and creativity..I am hopeful that the rendering of individual images and reassemble with vdub will at least rectify the video import problem when i seriously need that option though.
