It's a little glitchy still, but as I promised, here is my first take on making the cape ripple (a bit).

I'll post a tutorial or something as to how it's done, but suffice to say it's a trick not a solution

lol I spend a lot of time tricking people in these types of videos and as you can see I try to pay attention to detail for me I am not satisfied otherwise. I put a lot of little extras in that little movie that no one will notice unless they watch it 20 times haha but they make me chuckle as I add my twist to this radio series. The shows move so fast you have to come up with ways of breaking them up and having it make sense visually but that is part of the fun for me. We can all chuckle at this show because really superman has evolved and come a long way from "so you want to meet men is that it?" and popping out on earth full grown in his already fully crafted tights and cape haha.

Thanks for the solution I must say I would not have come up with your idea in a million years

Nice job there Ziggy! It looks like you may have slipped something under the cape (an invisible ground plane maybe) and moved it about slightly as the "flying" animation was going. Probably not how you did it but a fair guess I think.

Looking forward to seeing how you really did this! Toast

Yeh Mysto, I have played around with this and a ground plane or a small box shuffling around underneath the cape was how I achieved the effect. Interested to see if Zig has a different method. ...

He's right you know - this is my (unrefined) way of making that damn cape not become a scarf :

1. Created a sort of hilly strip in Sketchup using a section of terrain someone had posted on Google 3D Warehouse

2. Imported it into Muvizu with Alpha set to Opacity (and single sided).

The blue one is how it looks when you import it, I then applied the texture for Raindrop (from Effects) to make it partially visible, but easier to work with.

3. Stretched out 2 copies of the strip, and lined them up with Soop (made them much more shallow too, as the lumpier version sent the cape all over the place)

4. With Movement Speed set to 75, animated both strips moving straight ahead (arrow key up) to pass through his face. This moves the cape okay, but I'll be experimenting further to find the best kind of shape to pass under the cape to make it look better.

Obviously, set the texture to None before rendering the shots, and there you go. If anyone else finds a better kind of shape to use, please let us all know!

So urbanlamb, can we expect some top cape action in the next installment?

Oh yes most definately I will do my bestest to convert his scarf into a cape haha. I forsee a good 10 gig of Raw footage to get my 20 seconds of top notch cape action lol. I spend so much time stitching together scenes and clips but visually it is definately worth it

thanks for this all i could think was "dang they need to introduce wind or animate this cape" the soft body stuff is a bit meh in muvizu obviously its a work in progress hehe. For now this works well enough and I dont care how i get there as long as its convincing in the end Big Grin

Oh yeah, something I meant to add - it took me about 10 goes each for the two shots I used in the vid, because the cape has a mind of it's own and sometimes interacts brilliantly with the strip, sometimes glitches all over the place, and sometimes sulks and does nothing. You have to render out the shot over and over until you get the take that works before you can move on. Such is physics

Anyway, glad to hear you're taking up the challenge urbanlamb - up, up, and away! Big Grin
