Trying to direct my character I wanted to delete one of the movements from the timeline but somehow I deleted the entire timeline and with it the character. I pressed Ctrl "Z" hopefully but just got a fatal error message and on clicking OK Muvizu crashed losing me 1 hour's work.
Not enjoying Muvizu at this point in my own timeline.....

Ah, yes, you have to right click the timeline event to delete it, rather than pressing the delete button.

...which I hope reminds everyone, once again, that saving your work is your responsibility, not the programs Ctrl S, that's all it takes.

Oh I agree. But it is disappointing that there is no autosave feature and fatal errors caused by the user taking a valid course of action aren't a good look.

We've discussed an autosave on the forums before, but it would stop whatever you were doing to save, and complex sets can take 10 or 15 seconds to save - you don't want that happening every 10 minutes. Would drive me nuts. And Muvizu is basically a mod for a game engine that is constantly being updated to accommodate it's users, so don't expect 100% stability from it. None of the rest of us do, that's for sure

Hmm I'm surprised it would take that long for a differential backup, and for 150 quid I definitely would expect stability. I'll keep playing with the free version a bit longer though and see if it can win me over.

Ok. I managed to reproduce this again. If you right click on the only animation for an actor in the timeline and choose "Delete"for some reason the character disappears from the set and if you press Ctrl-Z Muvizu terminates with this message:-

Hi primaveranz,

Could you possibly send in the set file you are using when this crash occurs please? To: bugs@muvizu.com

I will see if we can get to the bottom of this for you!

Many thanks,

-Mike.

Turns out that it doesn't need to be the only animation for a character. Even i there are several, if you click on any of them and press "delete" (which is something I do automatically because I am used to using Moviestorm and iClone), the character will disappear and Ctrl-Z will cause the crash every time.

Still investigating this. It happens even if you don't press "Delete" but use the right-click option to "Delete".

The issue only occurs if the character is highlighted when you delete the action, so Muvizu deletes it instead. The solution is to make sure that you deselect the character once you have got the right name in the timeline for directing movement (say).

Hopefully Muvizu will find a way to prevent this behaviour as it is very frustrating.

While bemoaning the fact that there is no "Undo" under the "Edit" menu (as there is under many other Windows softwares) I happened to glance at the top right of the window and spot the 'undo' arrow, Duh! So after my most recent crash (I average 1 per hour due to my haste) I managed to resist the temptation to use "CTRl-Z" and used the arrow instead.
Lo and behold it worked! So at least I have a workaround now.

Damn, no it doesn't....

I tried moving the timeline past the movement block and then deleting but got the same result....

As for backing up, I try to do so after I finish each critical stage in finishing the drection of a particular character. My system doesn't crash when I accidentally press delete on the timeline for a particular action or movement tract. My problem is that I have four characters and once I'm done with one, I then notice another character that was finished that I wasn't working on was deleted. The problem is that you don't notice the character was deleted when you save the scene. A way around that is to do incremental backups. It's too lengthy of a process to type Save As and then rename the scene with an incremental number. Lightwave has that capability by pressing a different key to incrementally save without manually renaming the scene. Perhaps Movizu could also have a different key to hit to incrementally save so that if you notice a deleted character, you can bring it back instead of recreating everything about that character again. A better way would be to have the ability to save each individual character with its directions so if you lose one, you can bring it right back in with all of the directions undisturbed. Of course, the best solution is that if Muvizu is going to delete a character, that it asks you if you are sure you want to delete it and you can indicate "NO" and it leaves the character alone.

Yep, this is a good idea, and shouldn't be to difficult to implement.
