Better out than in we always say! We so agree with Shrek – especially when it comes to ideas! And here’s it is. Your chance to get it all out.
It’s competition time again here at Muvizu and we’re looking for all you budding animators to come at us with some more awesomeness, and if we’re impressed you may just win yourself a great prize!
The competition
This year the world is celebrating 20 years since the birth of one of the greatest animation studios in history, DreamWorks. In honour of this we are asking Muvizuers to create and submit Muvizu re-creations of their favourite scene from any of DreamWorks Animation’s long list of animated feature films. To jog your memory have a browse through the many options here.
Let’s keep the scope wide open to allow your creative juices to flow (flood even!). So, be true to Dreamworks vision of add your own creative twists or embellishments! There’s no limit on entries - you can even submit some wild and wacky clips – yes, we know you can do those! We’re letting this one run for a whole 3 months, so no excuses, get in there new Muvizuers - and those of you with busy schedules have loads of time to polish and show off your work.
The prize
We have the complete DreamWorks Animation collection on DVD to give away to the Muvizuer who shines the most. Including no less than 10 films this prize is a great tool for those looking to learn from some of the most talented animators in the world.

or a piece of it?

If not, can I use the same words or should I make up my own script.

Posts: 82 		Hi William, unfortunately the original soundtrack is copyrighted so you will not be able to use that. The script is a bit of a grey area, I would change a few words just to cover your back but I can't see it being too much of a problem. Thanks.

Having not seen any of the movies listed, I took a different approach. I adapted the Dreamworks trailer for Mr. Peabody & Sherman to Muvizu.
I added my own dialog, but still kept to the original idea, and I added my own special effects and music.



While not a scene from a Dreamworks movie, under the circumstances it's the best I could do.

Those who are reading this and didn't enter, we'd love to hear how we can make these competitions more attractive to you so any tips would be appreciated. Please bear in mind that huge cash prizes or promises of a career in the animation industry are highly unlikely!

@muvizu_chap why haven't there been any other entries? me personally haven't had any time to do my own projects let alone a competition. maybe the lack of interest is down to losing a lot of the people that would enter a competition through no communication with its user base for months on end and this is the result. nobody comes here anymore. theres only a handful of us left that seem to use this forum.
there's nothing wrong with the prize or the brief.
what can be done to make people interested again? dunno....
i think its all part of the same problem thats been building here for a long time. and from other threads recently muvizu should see what that problem is.
myself i shall keep churning out cheesy movies till i can no longer make them through my hands dropping off and my eyeballs burst Big Grin

It's a shame there aren't any big cash prizes or jobs available.

To be honest, I only come and check the forum every few days in the hope of some sign that Digimania will get behind Muvizu again.

a) Nobody expects the level of prize (high end workstations!) that Digimania offered in the early days but a box set of DVDs is hardly going to be an incentive. There are plenty of animation/film making books out there and relatively cheap software that would have made a better prize. perhaps it was just an unwanted Xmas present!

b) The competition itself did not fit well with Muvizu - a scene from a film but you have to do your own soundtrack and you can't import any characters which might have a vague resemblance. Many different suggestions were made for competition ideas last time - perhaps take a look at these again.

c) But far more important than the other two is that the long period of neglect of both the software and the forum has drained the life out of the community. People like me come on and moan on occasion but what we really want more than anything is for the software to be reinvigorated because deep down we all love it!

You are not receiving more than a handful of entries (if you're lucky!) to these things for bigger reasons than the quality of the prizes on offer. (A DVD as a prize is pretty pathetic mind you!)

I would suggest that you abandon the idea of running competitions for the foreseeable future until you somehow manage to rebuild the Muvizu community to where it was (or beyond) previously.

It's actually become embarrassing to watch these competitions wither. They are not creating either an interest in Muvizu or enough quality videos for you to use later for promotional purposes (which is what the competitions are really about let's be honest! )

Digimania, You already know what to do, you really don't need us to tell you.

The question is - Will you reapply resources to further develop Muvizu or not?..

.. If you do, people will show an interest in Muvizu once more, the community will grow and you can have more competitions with as many prize bargain bin dvds as you like.

If you don't it will die, but as I say - it's up to you so what's it to be. .

Muvizu lives or Muvizu dies?

Posts: 2220 		Here we are again, Digimania asking us what they can improve on when we've told them the main problem several times.

To summarize for those TLDR people:
  • Muvizu is falling into the shadows of animation, currently neglected by the staff.
  • We're hanging on to it, keeping it from death because we love the software.
  • Digimania need to kick start the community by updating the software and keeping us in the loop like it always used to be.

Well, the thing that I want to know from YOU Digimania is..... Do you really care?
I mean, I think a lot of users especially the Moguls are feeling a little sad these days, yes, it's true.
Where have all the old Muvizu HQ gang gone?? Come on Jim, Vince, Kerry and the rest
of the old guard, come on back in, your forum that you built from scratch is dying
a death ere! Help, help, heeeeeeeelp!! We canna hold on much longer captain!!

sorry, now, yeah the competition was a bit crap wasnt it? I was a bit interested, but, like all
Im really confused about where Muvizu is these days, where is it going? I'm not going to go into details
about new updates, but come Digimania, get a bit enthusiasm back.

The reason why the competitions and the forum is in decline is because the fun we used to share as a collective family
has gone.

We need to keep our forum going strong, but it can't be left to the Moguls or left over snippets from Twitter.
The developers, if there are any, need to get back talking to us, and also leaving comments about the wonderful videos
created with their product, you know, like it used to be????

So, if Silent HQ, can't, won't, or care about the forum or their product, then I'm afraid the competition will need
bigger prizes to tempt us to make movies with the limited capabilities of muvizu at its current trend.

Posts: 1988 		I'm with Toonarama on this one - you asked us to recreate a bit of a Dreamworks film, but we can't use their audio so straight away any attempt at replacing it will sound crap. Not that it matters, since Dreamworks use massively sophisticated software that makes Muvizu look like MS Paint by comparison, so it's guaranteed to look inferior before you even start. It is a self defeating exercise to animate an existing animation - if you'd said animate any film, or even genre of film, then you'd have had more entries. We like making toon versions of the real world Also, Dreamworks? When I looked at the list of films, I suddenly realised how much I prefer Pixar...


To summarise, I think we're all agreed - we can live without competitions, but we can't live without feedback from HQ and a fixed product. Or, to put it another way, everything Artpen said.

Yip bad move there. Probably best that there were hardly any entries after all lol!
